Ogun State government yesterday signed a multi-billion naira rail network contract with the China Civil Engineering Construction Corporation (CCEEC).

The contractors are to construct rail lines across the major cities in the state as part of the government’s efforts to ensure easy transportation of goods and passengers across. The project will be the first of its kind in Ogun State.

Governor Ibikunle Amosun who signed the contract on behalf of the government in Abeokuta, the state capital, assured that his administration would complete all on-going projects as soon as possible. The projects include the massive six-lane road, model schools and overhead bridges.

Amosun also disclosed plan by his administration to soon embark on massive rural road construction through out the state.

The governor who has just been re-elected for a second term in office stated: “We are going to hit the ground running. We are going to embark on construction of intra-state rail network, but we are starting first with inter-city”.

According to him, the rail project is very necessary in view of the fact that Ogun could boast of highly concentrated industries as well as numerous religious centres which attract thousands of worshipers from both within and outside the state on monthly basis.

Amosun expressed belief that the project, apart from reducing heavy pressure on the state roads, would also lessen traffic problems on the major roads.

The governor charged the contractors not only to ensure quality job, but complete the project on schedule.

The Chairman of the CCEEC, Mr. Cao Bao Yong, who signed the contract on behalf of his company promised: “We will not only deliver a quality project but we will deliver it on schedule.”]
