List of gubernatorial candidates out October 27
The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has disclosed that the list of gubernatorial candidates and voters’ list would be published on October 27.
The publication is in compliance with Section 34 of the Electoral Act, 2010 (as amended), which provides that a list of nominated candidates must be published at least, 30 days before the day of an election.
Section 20 of the Act also provides that the commission should publish the official register of voters, not less than 30 days before the election.
The commission added that it would deploy 16,723 officials to conduct the governorship election on November 26.
A breakdown of the deployment showed that there would be one returning officer, 18 local council collation officers, 203 registration area officers, 301 supervisory presiding officers, 3,010 presiding officers and 11, 103 assistant presiding officers.
Others are 1,321 assistant presiding officers, 621 reserve assistant presiding officers, 19 local council supervisors and 126 registration area cluster supervisors.
The state, which has total registered voters of 1, 666, 055, is made up of 18 local councils, 203 registration areas and 3,010 polling units.
Among top contenders in the election are candidates of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), All Progressives Congress (APC), Alliance for Democracy (AD), Social Democratic Party (SDP) and Democratic Peoples Party (DPP).
