To ensure that engineers meet up with obligations in their various work places, the Nigerian Society of Engineers (NSE) has trained and re-trained engineering staff in lubrication and friction reduction techniques.

Speaking ahead of the national conference of the Metallurgical, Mining and Materials Division of the Society in April 2017 in Jos, Plateau State, Chairman of the Division, Dr. Friday Apeh, said the society has received corporate sponsorship to implement an annual ‘best student paper prize’ to recognise original contributions to the conference from outstanding student attendees.

The participants in the training were drawn from a cross-section of engineering sectors including minting and printing, mining and cement production, oil and gas industries.

Apeh said the post-conference workshops were targeted at training engineers on lubrication of machines and friction reduction to keep them abreast with current best practices and products, adding that the trainees would return to their various firms to achieve better results on their machineries.

On efforts to make graduates employable, Apeh called for the introduction of entrepreneurship training in the school curriculum.

He also urged the Federal Government to establish more companies and resuscitate some of its moribund industries to absorb fresh graduates.

Managing Director, Pearlite Engineering Consulting Services, who was the coordinator of the event, Ese Ochoga, said the two workshops were ran concurrently to equip participating engineers with design and problem solving skills to tackle existing social and industrial problems, using engineering and scientific principles.
