Obi wins presidential election in Anambra, Imo

• As Umeh, Orogbu win Senate, House of Assembly seats

The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has declared the Labour Party (LP) presidential candidate, Peter Obi, winner of Saturday’s presidential election in Anambra State.

Obi swept all 21 councils in the state with a wide margin.

Announcing the result at the Anambra INEC office, Awka, yesterday, the Collation Officer, the Vice Chancellor, Federal University of Technology, Owerri (FUTO), Prof. Nnenna Otti, said the total number of registered voters is 2,536,156, while accredited voters stood at 628,590.

She also said that total valid votes were 613,861, void votes were put at 10,751 and total votes cast were 624,612.

She further said LP scored 584,621 votes to beat the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), which polled 9,036 and All Progressives Grand Alliance (APGA) scored 7,388.

Other results announced were as follows: Accord (A), 343; Action Alliance (AA), 108; African Action Congress (AAC), 1,012; African Development Congress (ADC), 208; Action Democratic Party (ADP), 299; All Progressives Congress (APC), 511; Allied Peoples Movement (APM), 325; Action Democratic Party (APD), 148; Boot Party (BP), 514; New Nigeria Peoples Party (NNPP), 1,967; National Rescue Movement (NRM), 118; Peoples Redemption Party (PRP), 62; Social democratic Party (SDP), 84; Young Progressive Party (YPP), 1,997; Zenith Labour Party (ZLP), 1,420.

Also, INEC has declared candidate of LP, Senator Victor Umeh, winner of the Anambra Central Senatorial District election.

Announcing the result, yesterday, at INEC Collation Centre, Amawbia, the Returning Officer, Prof. Chuka Enuka, said Umeh polled 103,608 votes, while Dozie Nwankwo of APGA scored 69,702 votes to come second.
ALSO, Obi defeated other candidates in Saturday’s presidential poll in Imo State, scoring 354,004 votes.

The Returning Officer, Charles Esimone, while announcing the results in Owerri, yesterday, disclosed that APC’s candidate, Bola Tinubu, came second by polling 66,171 votes.

PDP presidential candidate, Atiku Abubakar, who had 30,044 votes, came third, while NNPP candidate, Rabiu Kwankwaso, clinched the fourth position with 1,536 votes.
