Stakeholders in the South South have called for 5% contribution from donor agencies for intervention of Internally Displaced Persons (IDP’s) in Nigeria. They stated this in Calabar during a stakeholders meeting organised the Civil Society Legislative Advocacy Centre (CISLAC) with support from Ford Foundation, noting that the funds should be made available to a joint humanitarian funding account.

They also charged the government to come up with a policy that funds contributed into said account be deployed only on need basis to the IDPs focal coordinating institutions, in consultation with the inter-Agency Coordination Committee (IACC).

Other issues discussed at the workshop included flash appeal funding mechanism, grants and loan funding mechanism, individual institutional and agency funding mechanisms.

Participants also talked on the issue of monitoring and evaluation, government responsibilities with regards to practical implementation of all treaty and constitutional obligations towards the IDPs across the country and policy review process.

They further charged government to come up with a policy framework that would give protection to women and girls against any form of sexual molestation in the IDPs camp so as to serve as deterrent to others.
