Two men fight over late brother’s property

Members of the Ajkulor family in Burutu, Delta State, are at loggerheads over the sharing of their late brother’s property.

Recall that Travis Ajkulor, a family member, disowned by his father, the late Chief John Ajkulor, was declared wanted by the Federal Government and the DSS in 2009 over his alleged involvement with the militant group, Egbesu boys and the attacks on oil companies operating in the Niger Delta. Travis later fled the country and sought refuge in Europe.

Last week, Ben Ajkulor and Festus Ajkulor, brothers of the deceased, publicly engaged in bitter acrimony over the property of the late John Ajkulor. Each of them claimed the right to inherit their brother’s property in the absence of Travis, John’s only son. The situation has resulted in accusations and counter-accusations by both parties.

Festus has alleged that his brother, Ben, is responsible for the challenges his family presently face, claiming his two children suddenly became sick through spiritual attacks as doctors failed to detect any ailment ailing them.

Festus said this started a few months after Ben asked him to stop farming on their late brother’s land.

Ben, on his part, told the police that Festus sent the hoodlums that burnt down the house of their late brother.

But the police after investigation said there was no evidence to support the allegation. According to them, there was also no evidence to back up Ben’s claim, noting that the fire incident might be the handwork of the militant group linked to Travis to exact revenge.

The police advised the two parties to allow leaders in their community to help them reach a peaceful resolution that is acceptable to them.
