The Old Students Association of the Federal Government College, Kaduna (FGCK) has condemned an alleged plot by the state government to acquire part of the school land for private uses.

The association claimed that the state government on Monday, April 17, through the Permanent Secretary, Kaduna State Ministry of Lands, Surveys and Country Planning, wrote to the school principal and allegedly deployed bulldozers to commence work within a few minutes of delivering the letter.
At a press conference addressed by the president, Seyi Gambo, the association said in 2015, the state government made a similar attempt to take over part of the school land, which the federal ministry of education rejected.
The old students accused the state government of hiding under “security reasons” this time around to achieve its long-held ambition.
“This is the same land they have been trying to take since 2015. The pretense that the land is being excised for security reasons falls short of any truth whatsoever because immediately this letter was sent to the school, bulldozers were moved to the site and plans to build private homes began with drawing of allotted plots, while work is presently ongoing at the site on a daily basis.
“The illegal acquisition smacks of opacity considering the fact that the letter was not addressed to the federal ministry of education, owners of the school, but to the principal, who is just a staff of the ministry.
“We are alive to witness the systematic usurpation of the rights of our youths to have a sound education in all ramifications within the context of one Nigeria, without duress and under a very conducive atmosphere. I am a beneficiary of one of the schools in question.
“As former students of FGC Kaduna in Malali village, we are very concerned at the chicanery going on, emboldening a concern for good education, yet behind the scenes, their senile acts leave bile in the mouth,” he stated.
While restating their resolve to resist the forceful takeover of the land, the old students described the government’s action as very grievous.
“It has angered us and we are going to fight this to the last until all lands belonging to our school are returned. Their attempt to get the minister’s no objection to the excision of 45 meters of land was rebuffed by the federal minister of education in 2015. Their sudden forceful takeover in 2023 shows a high level of dishonesty,” the old students stated.
