Kano State pledges to engage quantity surveyors

IN a bid to instill professionalism and reduce cost in construction works, Kano state government has promised to engage quantity surveyors in all its major projects.

The state governor, Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso, an engineer who made this known during a three-day National Workshop on the theme “The Professional as an Entrepreneur” held at Coronation Hall, Kano Government House, Wednesday, organized by the National Institute of Quantity Surveyors (NIQS), noted that the profession deserved all attention and support from the state government.

Kwankwaso, represented by the State Head of Service, Umar Shehu Minjibir, assured participants of a that his administration would continue to put its weight behind the development of the profession.

“This government is assuring this gathering that the state government will engage quantity surveyors in all our projects, “ he promised.

Quantity surveyors, according to the governor were part of the engine room and an important pillar in infrastructural development anywhere in the world.

Minjibir highlighted that government found it extremely important to have more quantity surveyors in the state for infrastructural development of the state.

“That is why some of our students were sponsored by the state government to read quantity survey outside the country, “ he said.

Earlier, NIQS President, Murtala Aliyu noted that the things were changing in today’s world that one needs to acquire some skills to survive well. “People are now more concern about delivery of service than any other thing,” he stated.

“The programme was articulated with a view of bringing issues and challenges facing the profession in order to come up with solutions in the near future, “ he disclosed.
