• Appoints new professor of economics
Nnamdi Azikiwe University (UNIZIK), Awka, Anambra State, recently unveiled its newly constructed International Centre for Trade and Research, expected to enhance trade and research activities within and outside the university.

It was gathered that the state-of-the-art centre is designed to facilitate groundbreaking research and capacity building that would drive Nigeria’s progress in regional integration and trade.

The centre will enhance the university’s reputation as a hub of academic excellence, contributing to Nigeria’s socio-economic development.

In another development, the university has appointed Dr. Ngozi Egbuna as a professor of economics.

Egbuna, a former staff of the Central Bank On Nigeria (CBN) and Director General of the West African Monetary Institute, Accra, Ghana, expressed her vision and inspiration for the new centre.

She emphasised the importance of regional integration and trade, stating: “Trade is key in everything we do, and realising the importance of regional integration, Nigeria must actively participate.”

Recognising Nigeria’s role as a major stakeholder and contributor in Africa, she highlighted the need for a centre for the conduct of research and promotion of effective regional integration.

“There is need for a centre where research will be done; the society is expected to benefit from it. Therefore, the new International Centre for Trade and Research will produce human capacity that will lead Nigeria into the next level of integration, as well as trade.” She said.
