President Bola Tinubu has been advised to heed counsel of media, eminent leaders and groups nationwide by backing down on supporting any aspirant being investigated by anti-graft agencies to become head of the National Assembly scheduled for inauguration tomorrow.
The National Movement for Good Leadership and Greater Nigeria said it is inauspicious for the President or the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) to “flagrantly support a person, who has been variously accused of economic and financial crimes and already being investigated by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) for the number three position in the country, the Senate presidency.”
Leading by example, President Tinubu, according to National Coordinator of the movement, Isaiah Adanu, should be in the vanguard of promoting probity, accountability and good governance by not only preaching good character and integrity, but also by ensuring that only clean Nigerians are elevated to top government positions.
Speaking at the unveiling of an advisory compendium put together on leadership of the incoming 10th National Assembly in Abuja at the weekend, Adanu observed that virtually all newspapers in the country have drawn Tinubu’s attention to the implications of supporting candidates being investigated by anti-corruption agencies.
The group cautioned against foisting a leadership on the incoming National Assembly.
Referring to editorials, news items and articles in credible dailies, the Benue State-born Adanu said the media outfits have cautioned the new administration against increased criminalisation of politics and governance via elevation of people with criminal cases to exalted offices.
The coordinator appealed to the President and APC to err on the path of caution with a view to guaranteeing discipline and good governance in the country.
