Oduwa, Onah emerge Ebonyi Assembly Speaker, deputy Speaker

Member representing Ikwo South Constituency, Moses Oduwa, and his Ohaukwu South counterpart, Chinedu Onah, were, yesterday, elected Speaker and Deputy Speaker of Ebonyi State House of Assembly.

There were no other nominations when the Clerk called for further nomination for the position of Speaker. Odunwa was consequently sworn-in by the Chief Clerk of the House, Patricia Ayasi, and decorated by the Sergeant at Arm.

Onah was nominated by the member representing Onicha East, Celestine Ogba, and was seconded by Friday Ogbuewu representing Ezza South Constituency.

Also, Kingsley Ikoro from Afikpo West Constituency was elected Leader of the House, while Joseph Ununu representing Abakiliki South was elected Deputy Leader.

Other elected officers were Chief Whip, Nkemka Onuma, representing Edda West, while Lunca Arinze, representing Ishielu South, was elected the Deputy Chief Whip.

Speaking, the Clerk said the elections were in line with section 105 of 1999 Constitution, as amended.

Governor Francis Nwifuru, who was the Speaker of 5th and 6th Assemblies, inaugurated the 7th Assembly before election of principal officers commenced.
