Again, FG tasks state govts to invest in fire service

Federal Government has renewed its call to governors across states to fund and provide logistics support to its state fire departments to safeguard lives and property of citizens and boost the fight against fire incidences.

Permanent Secretary, Federal Ministry of Interior, Dr. Oluwatoyin Akinlade, made the call while on an inspection and familiarization visit to the headquarters of the Federal Fire Service, (FFS), weekend, in Abuja.

She said “It is important that Nigerians know and can be assured that fire will not ravage them in the event of an outbreak and this is why the states government must ensure that the state fire services are in good state and are function well. They must invest in their state fire service to protect the lives and property of Nigerians,” she insists.”

While listing progress so far made by the agency in recent time, Controller General, FFS, Abdulganiyu Jaji, said The CG adds that “The Service is in partnership with various local and International organisations with emphasis on increasing fire safety awareness and increased firefighting infrastructure.

“Let me also call your attention to some of the novel achievements the Service has achieved in the last one year; Completion and commissioning of the First Metropolitan Fire Station in Nigeria, located in Kubwa, Federal Capital Territory, (FCT), Abuja.

“The other twelve Metropolitan Fire Stations are at various stages of completion. Also the Completion and commissioning of the first Fire House props in West Africa located in the National Fire Academy Sheda, FCT.

Jaji said another major achievement for the agency this year is, “approval of Mr. President Bola Ahmed Tinubu GCFR to include the Service Rapid Intervention Vehicle in his motorcade. This is the first in the history of Nigeria.”
