Taraba gov plans to resettle Kashimbilla community

Taraba State Governor, Agbu Kefas

Governor Agbu Kefas of Taraba State has announced plans to resettle landowners in Kashimbila Community of the state.
Government reportedly took several hectares of land from the community for the construction of a multipurpose dam in the state.

Kefas made the announcement, at the weekend, when he visited the dam sited in Takum Local Council.
The 40 megawatts hydropower station was virtually inaugurated last month by former President Muhammadu Buhari at the Council Chamber of the State House, Abuja.

The dam, which has storage capacity of about 500 million cubic metres, The Guardian gathered, was conceived to check the incessant threat of Lake Nyos in the neighbouring Republic of Cameroun, which collapse always resulted in flooding that often affects millions of lives and properties in the state.

Elated that the hydropower station has begun to impact Taraba and neighbouring Benue State positively, Kefas said his administration would soon embark on resettling the owners of the land in which the dam was constructed.

“The issue of resettlement is not a problem. We will build something for them where they can stay comfortably. We are going to create a place for them because they are all our people,” he promised.

While reiterating his administration’s readiness to put smile on the faces of the residents, the governor urged them to eschew acts capable of impacting negatively on the multi-million dollar project.

On his part, former Speaker of Taraba Assembly, Peter Diah, who was on the governor’s entourage, said the House would collectively work round the clock to help the governor achieve his dreams of catapulting the state to the heights.

He believes the members, irrespective of their political affiliations, would work for the interest of the state.
Some of the landowners told The Guardian they would forever remain indebted to the governor, if he eventually to resettles them.
They passionately pleaded with the governor not to renege on his promise to the landowners and the community at large.
