A nine-man committee assigned with the responsibility of reviewing activities of dissolved boards, commissions and governing councils in Taraba State from 2019 to 2023 has been constituted by Governor Agbu Kefas.
This was announced, yesterday, through a statement from the office of Secretary to the State Government (SSG), Gebon T. Kataps.
The committee, which is to be led by Polycarp Iranius, has Genesis Kwantar as Secretary and Dr. Gangum Williams, Mallam Abdullahi Sanusi, Kefas Saleh, Prof. Nicholas Nyemise, Livinus Ayih, Fatima Yusuf and Obadiah Ipeyen as members.
Given a 21-day period to complete its assignment, it was gathered that the committee was directed to determine performance of the boards and commissions, their service delivery, as well as inflows and outflows of funds in the period under review.
They were also urged to investigate and review the performances of consultants on payroll of the state government to determine whether or not they met required standard, and advise the state government.
Other responsibilities of the committee include determining whether it is necessary to improve or retain the remuneration of members of those boards and commissions to achieve minimum performance, and suggest to government how best to reorganise them to function optimally and achieve their set objectives in the best interest of the state, among other responsibilities.
Some of the commissions whose activities are to be reviewed, The Guardian gathered, include the state Civil Service Commission, Judicial Commission, State Independent Electoral Commission (SIEC) and the House of Assembly Service Commission, among others.
Recall that when Governor Kefas took office on May 29, he ordered immediate dissolution of all boards and parastatals, as well as commissions.
He also dissolved all caretaker committee chairmen who were appointed by the immediate past governor, Darius Ishaku.
Meanwhile, it was observed that palpable tension had gripped members of affected boards and commissions whose activities are to be reviewed.
