Zulum, Army renew fight against terrorists in Borno farmlands

The Nigerian Army in partnership with the Borno State government has renewed the fight against the Islamic State West Africa Province (ISWAP) and Boko Haram terrorists on farmlands in Borno State.

The suspected terrorists killed eight farmers working on their farmlands in Shuwari, Kaleri, Tumsu Ngamduwa, Baram Karuwa and Muna communities in the state.

Unveiling the renewed fight, yesterday, at the funeral of slain farmers in Maiduguri, the governor, said: “We’ll convene a Security Council meeting this week with the military and other security agencies to deal squarely with insecurity situation on farmlands.”

He noted that this could not be allowed to continue with loss of farmers’ lives, including the killing of 13 scavengers in Dikwa, a border community with Cameroun.

Zulum said the Security Council meeting would establish an effective mechanism that would protect farmers during their 2023 planting season.

He added that Agro Rangers would also be established in securing all the farmlands in the state.

“We’ll move the military checkpoints from the Muna Garage to the Ngwom resettled community, about 25 kilometres east of Maiduguri,” he assured

He, therefore, urged the farmers to remain resilient, as security measures would be provided in each of the three senatorial districts.
 
He advised the residents to be law-abiding.
