Tinubu must be courageous to fight subsidy cabals, says Dogara

ECWA, Kaduna senator hail President’s leadership qualities

Speaker of the 8th House of Representatives, Yakubu Dogara, has applauded removal of petrol subsidy by President Bola Tinubu, urging him not to spare any errant Nigerian.
He also hailed the appointment of service chiefs by the President.

Fielding questions from newsmen after attending a thanksgiving church service to mark the successful completion of the six-year tenure of Rev. (Dr.) Yunusa Nmadu Jnr as General Secretary, Evangelical Church Winning All (ECWA) in Kaduna, he said, so far, Tinubu has demonstrated leadership and should be commended.

To him, the removal of subsidy by the President is a welcome development and a departure from the past. He said: “We stand by him on the subsidy removal, but he must be courageous to pursue the subsidy cabals, recover all they stole from them and prosecute them accordingly.”

On the appointment of service chiefs, Dogara said the President also demonstrated leadership by carrying every region along. Corroborating his position, Sen. Sunday Katung (PDP, Kaduna South) said the President demonstrated equity.

He, however, urged the new service chiefs to address issues of insecurity ravaging the country, particularly the Northern region, holistically, and provide palliatives to cushion the effect of subsidy removal.

ECWA President, who doubles as Christian Association of Nigeria (CAN) Vice President, Rev. (Dr.) Stephen Panya, also applauded Tinubu on fuel subsidy removal and appointment of service chiefs.

According to him, the President is making deliberate efforts to avoid lopsided appointments like the previous administration, and urged him to sustain the tempo. Adding his voice to the subsidy issue, Dr. Nmadu said Nigerians “are passing through difficult times” as a result of the removal, but urged the President to bring measures that will help address the effect on average Nigerians.
