Prior to her hospitalization, the 64-year-old artist had shared an unsettling message on social media.
Despite the initial concern, Madonna’s health is reported to be improving while she remains under medical care.
The distressing turn of events remained a closely guarded secret since June 24, when Madonna was believed to have contracted the infection.
Throughout her ordeal, her 26-year-old daughter, Lourdes Leon, stood by her side for support.
Just a week before falling ill, Madonna had taken to Instagram to post a series of vibrant pictures showcasing her preparations for her upcoming Celebration Tour. Accompanying the images was a cryptic caption: “The Calm Before The Storm……..”
The tour, scheduled to commence in Vancouver on July 15, has now been postponed due to Madonna’s illness.
Confirming the news, Madonna’s manager issued a statement, revealing, “On Saturday, June 24, Madonna developed a serious bacterial infection, which led to a several-day stay in the ICU. Her health is improving, however, she is still under medical care. A full recovery is expected. At this time, we will need to pause all commitments, which includes the tour.”
The Celebration Tour was intended to commemorate Madonna’s four-decade-long successful career and encompass her greatest hits.
Following the Canadian leg, she was set to perform multiple nights in London, as well as a tour across Europe and North America.
These unfortunate circumstances arise shortly after Madonna’s collaboration with singer Sam Smith on the chart-topping hit “Vulgar.”
The news of her hospitalization came as a shock to her fans and the music industry alike.
Madonna, who is also a mother to Rocco, David, Mercy, and twins Stella and Estere, continues to receive medical care as her loved ones hope for her full recovery.
Further details regarding the rescheduling of the tour and her health progress are expected to be shared in due course.
