Imo State House of Assembly Speaker, Chike Olemgbe, and the Commissioner of Police (CP), Mohammed Ahmed Barde, have urged the Muslim faithful to leverage the spirit of Eid-el-Kabir festivities to enthrone peace, forgiveness and love, especially to the less privileged.

In a statement by his Chief Press Secretary, Peter Uwa, the Speaker wished Muslims a happy and hitch-free celebration.

He reminded them that Eid-el-Kabir is a period of sacrifices for peace and co-existence.

He said: “Eid-el-Kabir is a time for every Muslim to forgive whoever wronged him or her; a time to extend love and succour to the less privileged and make sacrifices for peace and development of the society. Purity of heart and peaceful co-existence are cherished virtues of Muslims and Christians alike.”

The Speaker expressed happiness over the brotherly relationship existing among people of different religious and ethnic leaning.”

Also, the CP, while felicitating the Muslims in a statement by the Command’s spokesperson, Henry Okoye, assured of adequate deployment of security operatives at all mosques and worship centres in the state.

The statement read: “The CP assures members of the public that adequate security measures have been put in place to ensure the celebration is hitch-free.

“The Command is synergising with other security agencies in the state, and has put measures in place to ensure that vital areas like Mosques, residential areas, recreational centres and other public areas are adequately policed.

“Area commanders, divisional police officers and tactical team commanders have been mandated to dominate the entire security space in the state, and embark on a robust round-the-clock visibility patrol to forestall any breakdown of law and order.”
