Church urges youths, women to participate actively in politics

The Redeemed Christian Church of God (RCCG), recently, held its yearly programme tagged IMPACT 2023 conference in Lagos. The socio/political event, held every July, aims at stirring, sensitising and inspiring Christians and other non-active participants to participate in politics.

Speakers at the forum urged the youths, women and other religious bodies not to shun political activities, but to contribute their quota to the national development.

The event created an aawareness among the Christians, youths and other participants on how to get involved in politics and its activities, especially at the grassroots. It was also to sensitise the people now, rather than wait for another four years, on the necessity of contesting for political offices during elections.

The panelists also spoke on how to make the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) truly independent, and how the new administration could ensure an all-inclusive governance.

The General Overseer of Livingspring Chapel IntI, Pastor Femi Emmanuel, advised all church founders and bishops to encourage their members not to sit on the fence, but should get involved, for a paradym shift.

The Convener, Pastor Adebayo Oseni, observed that some church members, and the youths were not actively involved in politics because the older generation had planted a seed of discouragement, by tagging ‘’ politics as a dirty game.’’

This narrative has driven many credible persons away from politics and governance, hence our present predicament as a nation.

He said: ‘’The church has to be intentional about politics and governance .Enough of sitting in the bench. We have to encourage those who are interested in politics at the grassroots. Churches have to initiate Politics and Governance Unit/ Department that could handle political matters.’’
