Kano anti-graft commission arrests eight over missing N4b KASCO fund

The Kano State Pubic Complaints and Anti Corruption Agency has disclosed that it uncovered N4 billion allegedly diverted by appointees of the previous government from the account of the Kano Agriculture Supply Company (KASCO).

Besides, the anti-corruption agency revealed that eight persons linked to the diverted fund had been arrested, adding that investigation to track other missing government funds and property from KASCO has commenced.

Addressing a press conference yesterday, Chairman of the commission, Muhyi Magaji Rimin Gado, disclosed that he uncovered the corrupt act when he led an investigation team to the warehouses of the company.

Gado noted that cars and tractors believed to have been bought with the siphoned funds were also discovered at a place in Kumbotso Local Council of the state.

He said the funds were mischievously transferred from the company to an association registered with the corporate affairs commission named Association of Compassionate Friends.

“The association was meant to promote and take care of the living standard of the children of less privileged people in the society, but unfortunately it has been turned into a machine stealing public funds.

“We have arrested eight suspects and they are revealing credible information to the commission. One of them said he was given a certain amount to make false submission at KASCO but he kept the money aside waiting for a moment like this. He has returned the money back,” Gado said.
