Kaduna NLC leads protest against poor govt policies, hardship

Cautions against lawlessness, violence
Kaduna State chapter of Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC) has called on workers and other citizens to come out en masse in support of today’s protest against the Federal Government’s poor policies and the pervading hardship in the country, while urging them to be orderly during the protest.

In a statement, yesterday, tagged ‘Orderliness and Public Safety During  the NLC Mass Demonstration’ preparatory to the mass demonstration, Secretary of NLC in Kaduna, Gido Titus, noted: “We firmly believe in the right to peaceful protests, which is a fundamental aspect and pillar of democracy, allowing individuals to express their concerns and grievances in a respectful and lawful manner.

“As the NLC prepares for this demonstration to drive home the general dissatisfaction of workers and masses over the untold hardship caused by the anti-poor policies of the government, we call for unity, cooperation and peaceful participation.”

While explaining that the congress was not ignorant of the volatile situation in the country, he said: “But we want to make it very clear that any form of violence, vandalism or illegal activities will not be tolerated and will be met with appropriate legal action.

“The law will be upheld, and those found to be inciting violence or participating in criminal acts will be held accountable for their actions. To the lawful demonstrators, be assured that there will be adequate security cover to maintain a peaceful environment and protect the rights of all participants.”

Titus called on all to come together as responsible citizens without infringing on the security of society. “Our collective commitment to a peaceful and law-abiding society is crucial for the progress and prosperity of our nation,” he added.
