Vice Chancellor (VC) of Joseph Ayo Babalola University (JABU), Prof. Olasebikan Fakolujo, has emphasised the importance of living a purposeful life and recognising the transient nature of existence.
Fakolujo stated this, at the weekend, during a commendation service for the late institution’s Chancellor, Ademola Odunaiya, which took place within the university premises.
He urged Christians to reflect on the brevity of life and the unexpectedness of its end.
The VC, while highlighting that life’s value lies in the impact one leaves behind, said individuals should strive to make the most of their time on earth, as their legacy will be remembered long after they have departed.
He described the late Chancellor as an exemplary figure, characterised by discipline and patriotism, adding that under Odunaiya’s leadership, the university witnessed remarkable stability and progress.
Fakolujo said the memorial service would transition to a yearly memorial lecture to honour thedeparted Chancellor of the institution.
Meanwhile, in his sermon, titled, “Absent Here, Present There,” Pastor Stephen Aluko described the demise of Odunaiya as the earth lost, heaven gained.
Aluko said: “A child of God has happily returned to his Creator. His death is a loss for the earth but a gain for heaven. Those who don’t know him will weep, but he has joined a greater congregation.
“We are here temporarily but will be in our final place permanently, but while here, we must be men of purpose and live by faith and God’s reward.”
