He stated this at unveiling
the school’s building and
launch of N150m for school
bus in Ejigbo, Lagos. He
added that it was disheartened that many lgbo parents do not speak the
language to their children,
they prefer to communicate
in English, and as a result,
many of the children are losing their mother’s tongue.

He said the event was to create awareness on the need to teach and promote, encourage the use of mother tongue among children. The monarch, also a United Nations ambassador, explained that the move was necessitated by the prediction by the United Nations
that the Igbo language
would go into extinction in
the nearest future, adding
that the school would en-courage preservation of lgbo language and culture.

He said: “Many Igbo children do not speak the language anymore. The
language is gradually dying.lgbo are known as the custodians of culture, traditions, and proverbs, but the children are novice to all of
this because the parents
have failed in inculcating
the language into their children.

“Therefore, the school
would be of great value for
the children. We have decided to take the pain and cost in ensuring that these
children are taught what they are supposed to know as Igbo culture is concerned.”

and beyond. The Chairman of the Occasion, Chief Godwin Umeu-goji, urged parents to live up to responsibilities of inculcating the culture, heritage of
lgbo language to their children.

He said if the parents failed
to teach their children in future their children would turn against them. Speaking further, Dr. Alex Nwoye stated that the school would help the children to understand the importance
of lgbo language, while calling on parents to utilize the opportunity to enroll their children to enable them to
read and write in lgbo language.

Earlier the Chairman, Chairman Planning Committee,Mr. Charles Onyeaku, said he
would ensure that lgbo language is sustained and raised towards upward with a view to expanding beyond the shores.
