Delta commissioner-designate allegedly assigns self portfolio

Ezewu

Months after former governor of Delta State, Ifeanyi Okowa, dissolved his cabinet, there was confusion in the state Ministry of Secondary Education, as the former Commissioner, Rose Ezewu, reportedly left the office under lock and key.

Ezewu, who is also a commissioner nominee under the current Governor Sheriff Oborevwori administration, was said to have boasted that she is going to retain the Ministry of Secondary Education portfolio, even as Oborevwori is yet to inaugurate his cabinet.

The Guardian observed that Ezewu’s photograph, as Commissioner for Secondary Education, was printed on page eight of the brochure for the ongoing conference of secondary schools’ principals in Asaba, the state capital.

It was learnt that some staff members of the ministry were obviously miffed over the development, describing it as “untoward.”  According to them, it appeared that Ezewu was sure of retaining her former portfolio.

When The Guardian contacted the former commissioner, she simply said: “Where did you get your information from?

“I’m the immediate past Commissioner for Secondary Education, and nobody is in the commissioner’s office now.”

On her photograph printed on the conference programme, the commissioner nominee said: “Does anybody have a portfolio now? Go and ask the people who printed my photograph and name in the programme.”

However, the Chief Press Secretary to the governor, Festus Ekpen Ahon, said the state government is not part of this, confirming that Ezewu is only a commissioner designate, who is yet to be assigned a portfolio.
