Governor Babagana Zulum of Borno State has pledged to engage National Youths Service Corps (NYSC) members to teach in colleges and secondary schools after their service.

According to him, the corps members to be hired must have graduated in Science or Information and Communication Technology (ICT) courses.

Zulum disclosed this, yesterday, in Maiduguri, at the swearing-in ceremony of 1,225 corps members for the 2023 Batch ‘B’, Stream ‘2’.

He directed the NYSC Coordinator in the state, Mohammed Adamu, to submit the list of corps members that graduated in Science and ICT courses.

Beside the engagement of corps members as teachers, he also pledged to build and equip a permanent NYSC orientation camp before leaving office.

While congratulating the corps members, who are in the state to serve, he said: “The orientation of the NYSC scheme did not hold in the state because of the 14-year BokoHaram terrorism that claimed our people’s lives and property,” noting that yesterday’s event was facilitated by security agencies.

Adamu commended the governor for restoring peace that enabled the three-week camp orientation to commence at the Arabic Teachers College (ATC).

“There was no report of security threats while the corps members were travelling to Maiduguri for the orientation exercise,” he said.

According to him, the Shehu of Borno, AlhajiAbubakar El-Kanemi, and the governor played important roles in restoring peace in the state.

He said that as the registration of arriving corps members stood at 1,225, “more are still coming and it may hit 1,300”, as the camp could accommodate 3,000 graduates.

Chairman of the NYSC Governing Board, Mohammed Badiya, who also serves as the Permanent Secretary (Administration) in the Governor’s Office, assured that allowances of corps members would be paid regularly.

He urged the corps members to embrace and respect the cultural values and norms of Borno people while serving in communities.
