The Pioneer Vice Chancellor of Emmanuel Alayande University of Education, Oyo Town, Prof. Olanrewaju Olaniyan, yesterday, urged lecturers and scholars to conduct researches that are locally relevant and globally recognised.

He said conducting relevant and impactful researches is non-negotiable, saying the quality of research conducted by lecturers matters a lot.

Olaniyan gave the charge during the welcome ceremony organised for him by members of staff of Oyo State-owned University of Education.

The professor of Economics from the University of Ibadan (UI) promised to build on the rich history of excellence the school was known for.

The VC, who vowed to work towards making the university a global brand and placing it on the global ranking and pedestal, sought support from members of staff, students, unions and other stakeholders in the university.

He said he would achieve his vision for the institution with the acronym titled PEARLS, which stands for – Partnership, Efficient utilisation of resources, Administrative and teaching staff efficiency and effectiveness, Research, Locally relevant and globally recognised and Students with employability and entrepreneurship.

He said: “The university must be locally-relevant and globally- recognised. The town must know us and we must know the town.

“We must strengthen our research efforts. We must conduct research that is globally relevant. The quality of research is very important. We will strengthen the research capacity of our lecturers.”

The VC also promised that the institution would train its graduates to meet the current and future market needs.

He, therefore, urged the students to go beyond thinking outside the box but without the box.

“Think without the box. In our generation, we used to say people must think out of the box. Now, they must think without the box.

“It is what you do with your certificate that matters. You must prepare for the work of the future. You the students are the glory of this institution and you will continue to be its glory,” he charged them.
