Tottenham Win, Wolves Compound Everton’s Woes

Super Eagles Star, Calvin Bassey, was sent off in his first start for Fulham, but the former Ajax defender has Joao Palhinha to thank as the midfielder’s goal secured a point for his side in an entertaining Premier League draw away to Arsenal.

Bassey was sent off in the 83rd minute for impending Eddie Nketiah on the counter attack while Fulham were 2-1 down. But the 10-man side rose from the setback to net the equaliser four minutes later through a Palhinha goal from a corner.

Fulham showed they were in for serious business less than a minute into the game when Andreas Pereira capitalised on a Bukayo Saka faulty pass to take the lead. They held on to their advantage for the first 45 minutes.

Saka made amends for his earlier error in the 70th minute when he equalised from the spot for the Gunners after Fabio Vieira was caught by Kenny Tete in the box.

Nketiah scored Arsenal’s second as they came from behind to take the lead in the 72nd minute, before Fulham had the final word with the regular time two minutes to go with Palhinha the saviour.

At Old Trafford, Taiwo Awoniyi continued his ‘goalden’ touch in the English Premiership with a goal two minutes into Nottingham Forest’s clash with Manchester United.

Nottingham Forest further dampened the morale of the Red Devils’ faithful in the fourth minute with their second goal through Wily Boly.

It was the first time in Premier League history that Manchester United would find themselves two goals behind inside four minutes, but Eric Ten Hag’s side rallied to secure an improbable win through goals by Christian Eriksen, Casemiro and Bruno Fernandes.

Forest skipper Joe Worrall was red carded for bringing Fernandes down on the edge of the area midway through the second period, and though United could not make the most of the free-kick which followed, the Portuguese kept his nerve to drive home the winner 14 minutes from time after Danilo had tripped Rashford.

Awoniyi’s goal was his seventh in a row, having only scored twice in his opening 10 games as a Forest player. At Goodison Park, Everton’s torrid start to the season continued as Wolverhampton Wanderers beat them 1-0 at Goodison Park through a Sasa Kalajdzic goal, while Crystal Palace drew 1-1 at Brentford.

Everton, playing without the injured Alex Iwobi, dominated the first half, but yet again struggled in front of goal. Arnaut Danjuma had a shot saved onto the post when one-on-one with the goalkeeper and James Tarkowski squandered an even better chance, slicing wide from within six yards.

Gary O’Neil’s half-time message got through to the Wolves players and Fabio Silva could have broken the deadlock, but he was first offside when bundling home a cross and then sent his own one-on-one opportunity well wide.

Abdoulaye Doucoure had an Everton goal correctly ruled out for offside – it would have been their first goal of the season – and then came the sucker punch.

In the 87th minute, substitute Kalajdzic scored his first goal in a Wolves shirt, guiding Pedro Neto’s brilliant cross into the far corner. Crystal Palace secured a valuable 1-1 draw at Brentford, while Tottenham Hotspur won 2-0 away to Bournemouth, with James Maddison leading the way by scoring his first goal for the club.

Earlier on Friday, Chelsea defeated Luton Town by three goals with Raheem Sterling scoring a brace and Nicholas Jackson getting his first for the Blues.
