Borno State Governor, Babagana Zulum, has distributed 20 tonnes of rice and maize grit as palliatives to 2,000 male households in Damboa Local Council of the state.

The palliatives comprise 2,000 bags each of rice and maize grits.

Addressing the households, yesterday, in Damboa, the Governor, disclosed: “Today’s distribution of palliatives is for local councils hit by the 14-year insurgency.”

Noting Damboa and Gwoza councils as the worst hit by terrorism in Borno South senatorial district, he said 14,000 households in each of the other seven councils in the district not affected by terrorism would also be provided with palliative.

He explained that the people in the seven councils were, however, not prevented from farming since the commencement of insurgency in July 2009.

According to him, in Damboa town, each of the 2,000 households will get a bag each of rice and maize flour.

Governments at all levels, Zulum noted, cannot feed all the people in the state.
