
Yobe State Police Command has arrested two suspects for kidnapping and robbery in Tarmuwa and Bursari Local Councils.
The suspects were also alleged to have been terrorising residents of Babangida and Dapchi communities for a week.
Spokesperson for the Command, Deputy Superintendent of Police (DSP), Dungus Abdulkarim, who disclosed this, yesterday, said the suspects comprising Adamu Manu, 25, and Musa Alhaji Tahiru, 28, were perpetrators of kidnappings, theft and robbery in several communities of Tarmuwa and Bursari Councils.
He said the suspects are indigenes of Gombe State, residing at Kurnawa village in Tarmuwa Local Council of Yobe State.
On how they were arrested, he said: “On August 29, at about 4.40p.m. information was received indicating a kidnapping incident that occurred in August 2022.
“A gang of seven suspects with an AK-47 rifle and other weapons, invaded Mongono village in Tarmuwa Local Council and kidnapped two persons, disclosing that they demanded a ransom of N30 million from the victims.”
He said the abductees could not afford to pay the ransom, while in captivity for three weeks, before they managed to escape from captivity.
Similarly, on August 29, at 8.23p.m., a gang of four suspects besieged one of the escaped victims from captivity, and injured him with a machete, leaving him with cuts and bruises.
According to the spokesperson, the command also arrested four suspects for snatching a cell phone and N4,000 cash from their victim.
He said the victim was later rescued by the police and taken to hospital, and is now recuperating from the sustained injuries.
Meanwhile, operatives from the Tarmuwa Divisional Police Headquarters have trailed and apprehended two of the suspects.
He added that during the investigation, the culprits confessed to the crime in August 2022, while efforts are being made to arrest the fleeing kidnapping and robbery syndicate in the two local councils.
Also, the Commissioner of Police, Garba Ahmad, has reiterated commitment to fighting crimes, including kidnappings and robberies.
He said members of the public should continue to support the police with credible information on criminal activities in the state.
This, the CP said, will enable the police to take proactive measures against the perpetration of criminal activities.
The police boss also enjoined officers to stand firm in the pursuit of criminals by stepping up on the existing efforts of crime prevention and tracking.
