A chieftain of the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC), Uche Nwosu, have called on authorities to assign more roles to traditional rulers to curb insecurity in the polity.
In a parley with journalists in Abuja, he also called on security agencies to work in concert with youths in ensuring protection of life and property of the citizenry.
The Imo born politician contended that the task of securing the nation should not be left in the hands of the President and governors alone, notwithstanding constitutional provisions that places such responsibility on their shoulders.
Blaming the spate of insecurity on youth unemployment, he called on authorities to create job opportunities for the teeming population of unemployed youths in the country.
Nwosu further charged ministers overseeing the ministries of Youths, Humanitarian, Trade and Investment, Labour and Productivity to create avenues of training and empowering the unemployed with requisite skills and capital to be self-reliant.
He also called on President Bola Tinubu to establish an assessment and evaluation committee, as part of effort to ensure that the newly appointed ministers live up to their constitutional mandate.
Nwosu expressed optimism that the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Nyesom Wike, has the wherewithal to improve the security situation and infrastructural deficits in the FCT going by his antecedents as a two-term governor of Rivers state.
He believes that Tinubu would heed to the clamour by both political and opinion leaders in appointing an additional minister from the South South in the interest of justice and equity.
