For national development, the government must work with its academic institutions, Head of Service of the Federation (HoSF), Dr. Folashade Yemi-Esan, has stated.
Yemi-Esan added that no nation can develop without research by the ivory towers into issues of governance. Speaking at her investiture as UI@75 Ambassador in Abuja, at the weekend, he lamented that governments and the academia in Nigeria “are too far apart.” She noted that since she assumed duty as the HoSF, no Nigerian university offered her advice on the management of the civil service.
Therefore, she called for openness, which would help remove the lack of confidence in the system, change in perspectives and rearrangement of priorities.
The HoSF expressed happiness for the honour done to her with the investiture as UI@75 Ambassador, describing it as recognition of her worth by the institution that trained her.
As the best graduating student of her set, she recalled that university of Ibadan (UI) had a good balance of academics and social life, which made her who she is today.
She pledged to contribute to the scholarship for indigent students, research for national development, as well as deliver the 2023 Convocation lecture.
Revealing her six-pronged agenda for the revitalisation of the federal civil service, she said the exercise would be based on capacity building and talent, performance management system, IPPIS/human resources, innovation, digitalisation of content/services and staff welfare.
UI Vice Chancellor, Prof. Kayode Adebowale, stated that the Head HoSF was being recognised for her noble character, “a reflection of UI’s commitment to excellence in character and learning.”
