10 years after demise, Akeredolu, others honour Agagu

Olusegun Agagu

A decade after the demise of the former Governor of Ondo State, Olusegun Agagu, his political associates, friends, and followers converged on Akure, the Ondo State capital, at the weekend to honour him for his contributions to Nigerian politics and his enduring legacy.

The 10th year remembrance colloquium, which was attended by prominent politicians and Agagu’s family members, was marked with speeches and tributes that hailed Agagu’s dedication to public service.

While expressing admiration and respect for the late Agagu, who served as the Governor of Ondo State from 2003 to 2009, Governor Oluwarotimi Akeredolu stated that his legacy as an advocate and believer of good governance, transparency and accountability would not be forgotten easily.

Representing Akeredolu at the event, the Commissioner for Agriculture, Olayato Aribo, disclosed that Agagu initiated a transformative era of transparency and accountability in governance during his tenure as governor.

He said: “One would not easily forget his introduction of a developmental policy blueprint ‘Ondo State Roadmap to Progress, 2003-2007: that the sun might shine again.’ Successive administrations have taken after him to form their policy documents, including our eight-point REDEEMED Agenda.

“No wonder the people of Ondo State realised what they lost in terms of transparency, well-thought-out planning, excellence in execution of projects and programmes, and so on.”

The Chairman of the Organising Committee, Victor Olabimtan, a former Speaker of the state House of Assembly, said the late politician was not only a unifying factor while alive but a bridge builder, who also served the state with his all.

Speaking on the title of the colloquium, “Good Governance: A Review of the Purposeful and Impactful Vision and Mission of Dr. Olusegun Kokumo Agagu in Ondo State,” Olabimtan noted that it’s very apt.The event attracted dignitaries from across political divides.
