Vehicular movement in and around Oshodi-Oworonshoki-Berger expressway came to a halt for several hours yesterday, following a fatal road crash involving a wheat-laden truck on the Otedola Bridge in Lagos.
The truck, which partly fell off the bridge, left its remains occupying a lane of the busy corridor, thereby causing serious gridlock. Early morning downpour only compounded the bottleneck.
However, officials of Lagos State Traffic Management Authority (LASTMA), were up to the task, as they rallied to manage the situation.
LASTMA’s spokesperson, Taofiq Adebayo, said the driver escaped, while his conductor was unlucky.
Meanwhile, it was hellish around the Town Planning-Oshodi road, as motorists spent hours following the early morning downpour, which flooded Oshodi bridge.
The traffic started building up immediately the early morning rain stopped, and it continued until late evening.
As a result of the logjam, many motorists lost their phones and personal effects to highway robbers, who seized the opportunity of traffic to dispossess people of their items.
