Bigfoot, Ifeme C.S., Najj to headline Afro therapy rave

With a frenetic rise in fusion-focused music experiences, an eclectic blend of African music with House/Electronic music is set to make an iconic debut on September 23, at the Good Village (Good Beach), in Lagos. Dubbed, Afro Therapy, the enigmatic experience is set to popularise public consumption of therapeutic African music.

“There’s really nothing more beautiful than seeing more young people expand their music palette, and experience music in more diverse ways that truly showcase the beauty of our indigenous sounds,” Ugonna Okolo, co-founder, Afro Therapy, tells The Guardian.

Created by foremost events and marketing brand, Planet Utopia, the Afro Therapy event is set to be a bi-monthly hybrid show, with an artsy creative direction and focus on mental wellness awareness. The dance-focused event is also billed to be headlined by Nigerian sound whiz, Bigfoot, as well as Najj The DJ, and Ifeme C.S., respectively.

In collaboration with mental wellness organisations such as Hay Foundation, Anti-suicide and Depression Squad (ASADs), and Psychebabble Foundation, the Afro Therapy event is also set to hold a free mental wellness session for at least 50 pithre-registered attendees. The therapy sessions, which involve 30-min listening sessions with mental wellness professionals, would be held in tandem with global standards upholding all standards of privacy, safety and confidentiality. “Mental wellness is key, and we are glad to see more young people take charge of their health. And we believe that music has that power, to revolutionise society and bring relief to even the most restive of minds,” Okolo noted.

“Other exciting features include neon lighting, glow body art, belly dancing, dance battles, therapeutic games, pop-up sales, among others. All registration can be done via the link in @thisisplanetutopia bio on Instagram.”
