Seven suspects have been arrested following Sunday’s cult clash in Sagamu Local Government Area in Ogun State.
Confirming the incident, spokesperson of the Ogun State Police Command Omolola Odutola said the suspects were arrested after a raid led by an assistant commissioner of police.
The police spokesperson said four persons lost their lives following the incident.
“Upon receiving the information, the Area Commander swiftly mobilised more personnel to the scene in order to prevent the clash from escalating and to apprehend the cultists involved,” Odutola said.
“As a result, seven suspected cultists were arrested, and further investigations led to the recovery of a firearm, three live cartridges.”
The spokesperson gave the names of the suspects as Asaiye Omolaja, Azeez Nofiu, Mathew Adewale, and Bolaji Ogunkemaya.
She said Ogunkemaya was found with the four deceased persons in the same room where the killings occurred while one individual, Wasiu, managed to escape before the authorities arrived.
The Ogun State Commissioner of Police, Alamutu Abiodun, visited Sagamu to assess the situation and profile the suspects apprehended.
Abiodun warned cultists in Ogun State that their activities would no longer be tolerated.
Meanwhile, normalcy has been restored to the area following the clash.
