Katsina Emirate Council has relieved the District Head of Kauraye, Abubakar Ahmadu, of his position for presiding over a marriage contract without requisite medical certificate.
Ahmadu, who was the Sarkin Kaurayen Katsina, had overseen conduct of the marriage with one of the parties found to be HIV positive. His removal from office was contained in a letter addressed to him by the Emirate, and signed by its secretary, Bello Ifo.
According to the letter, the ousted ruler had presided over the marriage between Lawal Auta and Halimatu Abdullahi, without requisite medical certificate.
It said that when investigation led to the discovery of the incident, the Emirate recommended his removal from office and retirement.The state government, consequently, acted on the recommendation and announced the traditional ruler’s retirement.
A statement issued by spokesperson to the Secretary to the State Government (SSG), Abdullahi Yar’adua, reads: “The Katsina State Government has approved the recommendation of Katsina Emirate Council for the retirement of the Sarkin Kaurayen Katsina, District Head of Kauraye, Alhaji Abubakar Abdullahi Ahmadu, with immediate effect.
“This is sequel to a petition received by government and subsequent investigation by the Katsina Emirate Council in which the district head was found to have presided over a marriage without required medical certificate as provided by law, and more so one of the parties was HIV positive.”
