Minister of Health, Prof. Muhammad Pate; Vice President and Regional Director, Africa at Smile Train, Nkeiruka Obi; Dr. Timi Coker and Kate Isa have been shortlisted for the Most Influential People of African Descent (MIPAD) 100 Most Influential Global Health and Wellness Personalities for 2023. The ceremony holds from September 28 to October 2 in New York City, United States.
The occasion brings together a diverse group of black leaders, visionaries and influencers across the world to discuss issues affecting people of African descent and celebrate remarkable success stories.
Obi’s inclusion in this year’s exclusive list followed her contributions to healthcare in the country, Africa and the world over through her organisation.
Her efforts have transformed several lives and vulnerable individuals, particularly children born with clefts, by providing them with life-changing surgeries and support that not only restore their smiles, but also their dignity.
This year’s event, “Attaining Equity for People of African Descent Worldwide,” aligns with MIPAD’s commitment to promotion of equality and justice.
The programme promises to energise recipients and propel them for greater heights.
Founder and President of MIPAD, Jamil Olufowobi, is to be spotlighted for his visionary leadership in assembling exceptional Africans, who have made indelible contributions to the society.
Under his guidance, the body has continued to amplify the narratives of black excellence, uncovering untold triumphs and perseverance even in the most unexpected places.
Olufowobi’s dedication to promotion of equity and equality in communities worldwide is at the heart of MIPAD’s mission.
MIPAD is a global civil society initiative that supports the International Decade for People of African Descent, as proclaimed by the United Nations General Assembly.
It identifies and celebrates high achievers of African descent in both public and private sectors worldwide, and also fosters justice and development.
