
The Senator representing Adamawa North and Chairman, Senate Committee on Creative Economy, Ishaku Abbo, has stressed the need to open up the entertainment industry as a stable and reliable revenue generator.
Sponsoring the Creative Economy Commission (CEC) 2023 SB 124, the lawmaker, in a statement, noted the proposed legislation would address disputes within the industry, especially those relating to artistes and record labels.
More importantly, he added, the proposed body would be a regulator like the Nigerian Communications Commission (NCC) in telecommunications industry and National Broadcasting Commission (NBC).
The senator harped on the need to make the sector more viable and beneficial for operators to make more money for the country. The statement reads: “I am sponsoring the bill to establish the Creative Economy Commission (CEC) in bill number 2023 SB 124.
“The bill will open up the entertainment sector as a stable and reliable revenue and employment source for Nigeria through the development of entertainment hubs in each state in Nigeria. It will also be a regulatory body for the entertainment industry like we have NCC in telecommunications industry and NBC in broadcasting industry.”
Abbo, during a visit to the family of the late musician, Mohbad, pledged to reform the industry through the bill that had passed first reading.
