Ambassador of the Federal Republic of Turkey, Hidayet Bayraktar, has expressed his country’s readiness to improve existing ties with the Nigerian Air Force (NAF) through transfer of defence technology.
During a courtesy visit to NAF Headquarters in Abuja, the envoy noted that Turkey has, over the years, collaborated with the force, and would not relent in ensuring that the partnership moves to a higher level.
He pledged that his country would not only sell defence products to NAF, but would be happy to assist the force to develop its capacity to manufacture and maintain some of the goods.
On execution of the existing TK-1 helicopters’ procurement agreement with NAF, Bayraktar assured timely delivery and sustenance through effective maintenance strategy.
Responding, Chief of Air Staff (CAS), Air Marshal Hasan Abubakar, appreciated the assurances, adding that NAF would seize the opportunity to enhance its Research and Development (R&D) drive.
He observed that the offer of technology transfer aptly aligns with one of the key enablers of his command philosophy. Abubakar said the Turkish government’s support is key to sustaining the ongoing counter-insurgency operations in Nigeria. He implored the diplomat to fast-track delivery of the six TK-1 planes.
