Olokun festival begins, Gani Adams seeks Yoruba unity

As yearly Olokun-Olosa Festival begins today in Lagos, the Chief Promoter of the Olokun Festival Foundation (OFF), Gani Abiodun Adams, has called for unity among the Yoruba race.
Speaking at a press conference, yesterday, in Lagos to herald the cultural fiesta, he stressed on the need to promote the Yoruba cultural identity towards changing the ugly narratives about the race.
This year’s festival will feature over 30,000 participants across all walks of life at the cultural fiesta that will take place at Badagry.
Adams, who was represented by the Director of Communications for
Olokun Festival Foundation (OFF), Yinka Oguntimehin, said the celebration of the festival would feature more than 10,000 tourists coming from parts of the world.
He said: “Tourists come from neighbouring countries, like Benin Republic,Togo, Cotonou, and even from South America countries like Brazil and Cuba, and other countries of the world.”
He explained that the yearly celebration of the Olokun, like every other festivals, is to promote Yoruba culture and traditions.
He further said Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu has been invited as special guest while the Akran of Badagry, HRM Oba De-Wheno Aholu (Aholu Wheno Toyi 1) is the royal host who, will be leading more than 30 monarchs to the event.
