Religious leaders in Imo State have offered prayers for God’s intervention over the forthcoming governorship election in the state.
They also appealed to the entire Imo citizens to embrace and support efforts that would make the coming election credible and peaceful.
The religious leaders made the appeal at a one-day interactive meeting with management staff of the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) in the state, which was held in Owerri.
Speaking, Chairman, Christian Association of Nigeria (CAN), Imo State chapter, Rev. Eches Divine Eches, and Chairman, Imo State Muslim Council, Prince Bashir Muhammed Uwakwe, among others, promised to assist with effort that would help ensure that the coming guber election meets expectations of the people.
They also commended the Resident Electoral Commissioner (REC) in the state, Prof. Sylvia Agu, for her effort to ensure that the electoral exercise is hitch-free.
Earlier, Agu said that the meeting, which also had in attendance faith-based groups, was organised by the Commission in preparation for the November 11 guber poll in the state.
While stressing on the important roles of religious leaders as agents of change and opinion moulders, she appealed to them to support the Commission in its effort to achieve improved performance in the entire exercise.
