Court remands siblings for clubbing uncle to death

A magistrate court sitting at Ilorin, yesterday, remanded two siblings, 25-year-old Musa and 20-year-old Aliyu Idris, for allegedly clubbing their uncle to death in Ilorin, Kwara State.
 
The duo was arraigned before the court by the police for the offence, which happened at Kaiama Local Council of the state.The police described their offence as culpable homicide and criminal conspiracy that contravened sections 97 and 221 of the penal code.
  
Police prosecutor, Gbenga Ayeni, said the accused persons wanted to kill their father over undisclosed reason before pouncing on the 54-year-old deceased, Mohammed Abubakar, who attempted to rescue his elder brother.
 
The Police First Information Report (FIR), read: “The culprits conspired to attack their uncle, Mohammed Abubakar, 54, and clubbed him to death in Kaiama council.
 
“Investigation conducted at the State Criminal and Investigation Department (SCID), Ilorin, revealed that the suspects wanted to attack their father over a little misunderstanding which led to the intervention of the uncle.” The report explained that the corpse was discovered late in the day.
  
“The father took his cow for grazing and returned late only to discover that his children had killed his younger brother.
 “The suspects confessed to the crime that they were not happy with their uncle for not allowing them to attack their father which made them kill him”, the report added.
 
Ruling, Magistrate A.A Issa remanded the suspects in correctional facility pending the Directorate of Public Prosecution (DPP) advice, and adjourned to November 1, for further hearing.
