Nissi Ogulu returns with Unboxed

Following her well-received pandemic-era album dubbed, Ignite, acclaimed songbird, Nissi Ogulu, is back with another exciting project that further etches her uniqueness in the Nigerian music scene.

Dubbed, Unboxed, the seven-track record is a sonic voyage that encapsulates Nissi’s unique blend of Afro Jazz, R&B, and Soul. Each song is a chapter in the artist’s narrative, exploring themes of love, empowerment, and self-discovery.

“I wanted it to really reflect and embrace people that are versatile. I wanted them to embrace themselves to their maximum potential. Using music to express that, it’s like an outlet for self expression and acceptance. I want to empower people to appreciate the little things about themselves,” she told Weekend Beats.

Featuring ace musicians including Fireboy DML and Teni, the project spins off with an evergreen appeal that applauds Nissi’s versatile creative process, especially with live instrumentation during the recording process.

Born to Bose and Samuel Ogulu (Burna Boy’s parents), Nissi Ogulu started her creative pursuit in music from the age of six. While studying for a mechanical engineering degree in the University of Warwick, Nissi still stuck to her dream, debuting in 2016 with an RnB single dubbed, Criminal. True to her multi hyphenate lifestyle, Nissi is also the founder of Norrd, an avant-garde creative agency, as well as her Creele animation studios, which has birthed project like, The Satchel, among others.
