Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in Kwara State is planning to drag Governor Abdulrahman Abdulrazaq to the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) over the whereabouts of the state’s N17 billion.
The party alleged that the amount is either kept aside as a parting gift for the governor or already spent to prosecute the 2023 elections for the All Progressives Congress (APC).
But Chief Press Secretary (CPS) to the Governor, Rafiu Ajakaye, countered the allegation by PDP and described the main opposition party as an unrepentant and serial loser.
Speaking in Ilorin, yesterday, PDP’s Publicity Secretary, Olusegun Olusola, said the entire Kwara populace deserved to know, in which bank the money was kept and how much interest it attracted.
Olusola said: “Our position as opposition, and like millions Kwarans, is simple; the governor should address the state on how our money is faring, otherwise we shall tread another option by involving other government agencies that would bend him into action.”
He listed the agencies to include the EFCC and the House of Assembly.
“Should he fail to account for this, we will take drastic steps to force him out of his shell. One of the actions will be to write the Nigerian Financial Intelligence Unit (NFIU), a subsidiary of the EFCC”.
“After this, we are already putting up moves to storm the state Assembly to impress upon the lawmakers to wake up to their legislative duties and rescue Kwara people from eternal financial debt,” he added.
He, however, wondered how N17 billion could be stashed away in a personal account, while insecurity and poverty pervade the state.
He said: “Criminality has taken over the entire state; the number of out-of-school children has increased and poor infrastructure is overwhelming, yet N17 billion is cooling off somewhere. This is counter-productive.”
