
The United Nations met with the New Nigeria People’s Party (NNPP), on Thursday, to made resolution on how to strengthen Nigeria’s democracy.
They expressed strong support for Nigeria’s efforts toward the restoration of peace and security.
Acting Deputy National Chairman of NNPP, Prince Nwaeze Onu, disclosed this in Abuja, while receiving delegation of the Office of Internal Oversight Services for the United Nations Secretariat, led by Yuen Ching Ho, on a courtesy visit to Nigeria.
Onu said: “Evaluation and progression of democracy process is a very serious issue that requires every serious political party to listen and suggest where we can keep in the democracy.
He said sharing ideas and experience of organization like the United Nation may have had from others developed democracy, would help developed nations like Nigeria to strengthen its democracy.
While responding, leader of delegation, Yuen Ching Ho, noted that the office has the responsibility for providing oversight of different United Nations programs activities offices, with the aim of serving accountability and lessons learning purposes for good government.
She said: “So we are in Nigeria this week to meet with important stakeholders such as NNPP party to get your views on particular aspects. On how you engaged with with some of these United Nations entities on election related matters.
“What are your views or collaboration, What are some of the challenges perhaps that you faced, if you have received any support or you further seek for another support that could be strengthened? And to hear your thoughts on how perhaps this collaboration could be improved as we go down the track.”
