
The presidential candidate of the New Nigeria Peoples Party (NNPP) during the 2023 general elections, Rabi’u Musa Kwankwaso, on Saturday, willed out his house, mosque and newly constructed Quranic centre to charity.
The rare gesture demonstrated by the former senator representing Kano central was part of humanitarian activities outlined to commemorate his 67th birthday.
At the unveiling of the centre named after his late father, Majidadi Institute for Qur’anic Research and Advancement, Kwankwaso explained that the institution was conceived to promote Quranic and conventional knowledge, being part of his cardinal philosophy in life.
Kwankwaso said the moment he dies, the Kwankwasiyya foundation reserves the liberty to decide what becomes of his house, mosque and the centre named after his father.
According to him: ” We intend to train children in memorization of holy Quran and inculcate conventional system of education. We are working on the curriculum that will accommodate students between the age limit of 5 and 15 that will undergo eight years program.
” At the end of their training, we hope that those who graduate here with diploma certificate will secure admission to pursue higher degrees. After the successful completion of their education, we hope these set of students will be deployed to man key government positives”.
Kwankwaso also used the opportunity to highlight some of his achievements during his tenure as governor, especially on eradication of street begging and promotion of education development.
He lamented how the immediate past administration abandoned his projects on construction of 44 almajiri schools and 44 technical institutes. Kwankwaso applauded Governor Abbas Kabir Yusuf for sustaining his policies.
On his part, Governor Yusuf pledged to mobilize contractors to complete all the 44 almajiri centres and technical institutes abandoned by the former government.
