Kwara gov sends commissioners to media trainings

Yobe State Commissioner for Home Affairs, Information and Culture, Abdullahi Bego, has applauded journalists’ professionalism and gallantry in reporting terrorism and others in the state.

Bego gave the commendations, yesterday, while declaring open a two-day workshop for journalists, organised by Yobe Council of the Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ), in Kano, Kano State.

According to him, journalists in Yobe State are dedicated, resilient and continue to sacrifice their lives in the journalism profession. He said: “Since the creation of the state in 1991, journalists have been doing a wonderful job by reporting what is happening in the nooks and crannies of the state.

“I specially want to recognise and laud your contributions during the 12-year Boko Haram insurgency.

“A time when many people were leaving Yobe, not a single journalist left the state because of terrorism.
“All of you stayed back doing your jobs even under very difficult and sometimes threatening circumstances.”

In his response, Chairman of the NUJ Yobe Council, Rajab Ismail, commended the Governor Mai Mala Buni-led administration for facilitating the workshop for journalists.

IN another development, commissioners in Kwara State are currently undergoing training on media ethics and etiquettes toward adequate and due representation of government.

The state’s Commissioner for Communication, Bolanle Olukoji, gave the hint, yesterday, at the Correspondents’ Chapel during her familiarisation visit.

She said the state government was aware of the positive contributions of the media, especially the correspondents, to the success of Abdulrahman Abdulrazaq’s administration.

According to her, it was to this end that the government moved to streamline the source of information to the public to media experts in the cabinet as well as to train other professionals but with little or no media experience.

She, however, commended the chapel for its support, saying that the bulk of the achievements recorded by the governor could only be for the media friendship.
