It was fun and excitement recently at the Summit Event Centre, Alausa, Ikeja, Lagos, where a book was launched to mark the 80th birthday of Prophetess Omolara Oyeyemi.

The event, which was filled with glitz and glamour, attracted friends, family and acquaintances of the matriarch of Oyeyemi family.

The autobiography, titled, Favoured – Stories of challenges, triumphs and lessons from my life and ministry, takes the reader through the life of Mama Oyeyemi, who was barely six years in marriage, when her husband died in a car accident.

Despite the agony, Oyeyemi, often called Aunty Lara or Sisi Lara in the church (which she enjoys), draws her strength from serving God and resting her hope on Him as a prophetess ordained 50 years ago.

She advised everybody desirous of living successful life to hold on to God.

Her third daughter, Ayodeji Adewunmi, described her mother as a living testimony of God’s goodness, a compendium of fascinating character who has the fruits of the spirit and lives by what she says, adding that the younger generation has a lot to learn from her humility, doggedness and godliness.

She recalled that her turnaround in life was orchestrated by her mother, who identified her choleric nature as an undaunted go-getter, who never cared whose ox is gored early.

“She used to counsel me during my early ages of between 16 and 18, and in fact, bought me a book titled: Spirit Controlled Temperament by Tim LaHaye, which tremendously transformed my life,” Adewunmi said.

The book reviewer, who incidentally wrote the foreword, was the Pastor, C&S Christian Assembly, New Jersey, U S.A., Femi Soyemi.

According to him, the book speaks to the divergent people of this generation, precisely mothers going through challenges on how to take care of their wards. He added that the book would help those suffering from depression and becoming suicidal.

The reviewer commended the author’s language and choice of words from the first chapter to the end. He described her as a beautiful writer who spiced the book with relevant bible passages.

While recommending the book for those who need encouragement, noted that Mama Oyeyemi’s life is an is a canvas of good virtues.

The first chapter talks about mentorship and spiritual growth of the author and women ministry, while chapter two highlights family influence, childhood and words of encouragement for those facing challenge.

Chapter three treats the author’s days in nursing schools and her first job, among others, and the fourth addresses her marriage and ordination as a prophetess. It ends with encouragement to the married and those intending to do so.

Chapter five addresses caring for children. It is also replete with motivational words for those looking for fruits of the womb, while the sixth chapter tells the story of her husband’s passage. A reason she is not angry with God. The chapter is an encouragement to widows and widowers.

Chapter seven reveals how she started her own venture, while chapter eight dwells on God’s fulfilment in the author’s life.
