Chairman House of Representatives Committee on Insurance and Actuarial Matters, Ahmed Jaha, has assured the Nigerian Insurers Association (NIA) of the 10th National Assembly’s support for growth of the insurance industry.
He gave the assurance when the leadership visited him in Abuja.
Chairman of NIA, Olusegun Omosehin, who led the delegation to felicitate with Jaha on his appointment, commended him for his commitment to development of the industry.
He pleaded with him to facilitate passage of the Consolidated Insurance Industry Bill into an Act.
Omosehin also sought collaboration in relevant areas, while urging enforcement of compulsory insurance laws and underwriting of all government assets.
Jaha, while commending the NIA executive for the trip, assured them that insurance would take its rightful place.
He promised to ensure that all federal assets are consolidated for easy insurance coverage, besides working diligently to see that adequate budgetary provisions are made for insurance of government properties.
The lawmaker observed that passing the Consolidated Insurance Industry Bill into an Act would facilitate the growth of the industry, hence he would back the advocacy.
Jaha called on insurance firms to sustain trust, adding that the economy needed them to thrive.
