Court jails six for circulating nude video of former Osun Speaker

Timothy Owoeye

The Federal High Court in Osogbo sentenced six individuals to jail for defrauding, cyber-stalking and circulating nude video of Timothy Owoeye, former Osun Speaker of the Osun State House of Assembly.

Justice Emmanuel Ayoola, in his ruling, found the convicts guilty of conspiracy, advance fee fraud, and the cyberstalking of the ex-lawmaker.

The convicted individuals are Kazeem Agbabiaka, Femi Oyebode, Abdul-Rasheed Ojonla, Babatunde Oluajo, Adebiyi Kehinde, and Ismaila Azeez.

The court said that the convicts had defrauded Timothy Owoeye of the sum of N38 million and further aggravated the offence by publishing his nude video on the internet.

The incriminating video, which surfaced online in 2018, showed Owoeye in a compromising position, with the accompanying narrative alleging that he engaged in a ritual bath with blood for electoral success in the 2019 general election.

The convicts were arrested and initially arraigned before a magistrate court. However, the case was later transferred to the Federal High Court on October 19, 2018.

During the trial, the prosecution, led by assistant director of public prosecution, Moses Faremi, presented 57 exhibits.

These included bank statements from three commercial banks where the fraudulently obtained money was deposited, a flash drive, a compact disc, a wooden box, a $100 note, and a firearm.

The defence counsel prayed to the court for leniency, noting that the convicts were first-time offenders and family men.

However, Justice Ayoola, in delivering the verdict, sentenced each convict to five years imprisonment.
